What happens to my log when I travel to another time zone?
Well Lived keeps every entry at the moment it actually happened, along with the time zone you logged it in. Travel doesn't scramble your days, and you choose when your log switches clocks.
When you arrive somewhere new
If your phone or computer's clock is on a different time zone from your log, a card appears: "This device is on New York time; your log is on Makassar time."
- Switch to New York logs new entries on the new clock. Entries you've already logged keep their times.
- Keep Makassar leaves your log where it is. This device won't ask again until its time zone changes again.
You can also change it any time in Settings → Profile → Time zone.
What you'll see on the Log
- An entry logged on a different clock from your current one carries a small time zone tag.
- Where your clock changed, a line says so, for example Clock changed: Makassar → New York (−12h).
- A travel day can be longer or shorter than 24 hours, and the day's header says why ("a 36-hour day").
- Lengths are always real durations, so a flight that crosses time zones shows how long it really took.
Questions
Why does a report put an hour on a different day from the Log on a travel day? Reports place each entry on the day it was in its own time zone. Over a week or longer the totals match.
I forgot to switch. Are my entries wrong? No. Each entry still marks the right moment, just shown on your old clock. Switch when you notice. New entries will use the new zone.
