Why aren't I getting notifications?
When Send a test in Settings → Profile → Logging reminders says the test was sent but nothing appears, Well Lived has done its part: the notification reached your device, and something on the device is keeping it out of sight. Usually that's one of three switches: your computer's or phone's own notification settings for the browser, a Focus or Do Not Disturb mode, or the browser's permission for Well Lived. Check them in that order.
First, make sure notifications are on for this device: in Settings → Profile → Logging reminders, Notifications on this device should say On. If it offers Turn on notifications, press it and choose Allow. See How do I set up or turn off the logging reminder?
On a Mac
- Open System Settings → Notifications.
- Find your browser in the list (Google Chrome, Safari, Microsoft Edge or Firefox) and open it.
- Turn on Allow notifications, and set the style to Banners or Alerts. With None, notifications only collect in Notification Center (click the date and time at the top right of the screen to see them).
- If a Focus is on (the moon or another icon in the menu bar), notifications wait until it's off. Turn it off, or add your browser to the Focus's allowed apps in System Settings → Focus.
On Windows
- Open Settings → System → Notifications.
- Turn Notifications on, then turn it on for your browser (Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge or Firefox) in the list below.
- Turn off Do not disturb, or add your browser under Set priority notifications.
- On Windows 10 the same settings are under Settings → System → Notifications & actions, and Do not disturb is called Focus assist.
On an iPhone or iPad
- Notifications only work in the Well Lived app on your Home Screen, on iOS 16.4 or later; Safari's tab can't receive them. See How do I add Well Lived to my phone's home screen?
- Open Settings → Notifications → Well Lived and turn on Allow Notifications, with Lock Screen, Notification Center and Banners ticked.
- If a Focus is on (Control Center), notifications wait until it's off, unless Well Lived is on the Focus's allowed list.
On Android
- Open Settings → Apps → Chrome → Notifications (or Well Lived, if you added it to your home screen) and turn them on.
- In Chrome, tap ⋮ → Settings → Site settings → Notifications and make sure app.welllived.io is allowed.
- Turn off Do not disturb, or let Chrome through it.
In the browser itself
If you pressed Block when the browser asked, Well Lived can't ask again, so allow it by hand:
- Chrome or Edge: click the icon at the left of the address bar on app.welllived.io, turn Notifications on, and reload the page.
- Safari on a Mac: Safari → Settings → Websites → Notifications, and set app.welllived.io to Allow.
- Firefox: click the icon at the left of the address bar, clear the blocked notifications permission, and reload.
Then press Turn on notifications again in Settings → Profile, and Send a test.
Questions
The test arrived, but a reminder didn't. Reminders only come when one is due: the morning one at your chosen time if you haven't logged since the early hours, and the daytime one when nothing's been logged for your interval, inside your hours. A recent log from any device keeps them quiet.
My computer was asleep. Notifications sent while a computer sleeps, or while the browser is closed, can arrive late or not at all. The browser needs to be running (in the background is fine).
Can I get them on more than one device? Yes. Turn notifications on separately on each one; Settings lists the others under Also on.
